Raise a Hallelujah (Post-Grunge / Hard Rock Cover)

Originally by Bethel Music

This isn’t the soft, ambient version you may be used to.

This is post-grunge. Hard rock. Alternative rock.

We approached “Raise a Hallelujah” through a 90s-influenced, guitar-driven lens; gritty textures, wide rhythm guitars, punchy drums, and a vocal delivery that carries weight and urgency.

Because sometimes praise doesn’t sound polished.
Sometimes it sounds like survival.

This version leans into tension before release. The verses hold restraint; spacious but heavy, while the chorus opens into thick, layered guitars and driving drums that feel more like a battle cry than a whisper.

The goal wasn’t aggression for its own sake.
It was conviction.

Post-grunge has always carried that raw, human honesty; the ache, the resistance, the fight to believe when things feel unstable. That texture felt right for this song. Because raising a hallelujah isn’t always gentle. Sometimes it’s defiant.

This arrangement builds intentionally:
• Guitars that grow wider and heavier as the song progresses
• A rhythm section that pushes forward with urgency
• Vocal harmonies that expand from intimate to declarative

We wanted the chorus to feel like it breaks through the ceiling, not cinematic orchestration, but amplified faith.

This is the kind of worship you sing when:
• You’re under pressure
• You’re in the middle of restoration
• You’re choosing faith before the outcome
• You’re praising through the noise

Praise isn’t denial.
It’s resistance.

This cover is for anyone who has ever had to raise their voice above fear, and mean it.

Lyrics

Raise A Hallelujah

Verse 1
I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah Heaven comes to fight for me

I’m gonna sing in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes hope will arise
Death is defeated the King is alive

I raise a hallelujah with everything inside of me
I raise a hallelujah I will watch the darkness flee
I raise a hallelujah in the middle of the mystery
I raise a hallelujah fear you lost your hold on me
